Laura Truitt is an assistant professor of painting and drawing at Gonzaga University. Before getting her MFA in painting at Colorado State Laura studied painting and drawing at Goucher College, the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland, Vermont Studio Center and the Chicago Art Institute. Her current work focuses on architecture and landscape as representative of social systems and the contrasts that are inherent in painting and drawing space. Laura is represented by the William Havu Gallery in Denver and has shown her work all over the country including the EWU downtown student gallery, the Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, The Painting Center in NYC, the Arvada Center in Aurora, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver.
I’ve been working within landscape imagery for 15 years. Much of my work has to do with perspective. Linear perspective, surely, but also our emotional and collective perspective of landscape and personal space. The underlying conflict in my work is generated by climate change, land abuse and over consumption of all kinds, my own included.
