Art on the Street continues a project pioneered in 2016 by the Spokane Art School. Using giant easels, we engage the community in free art making on the streets of Spokane. On eight consecutive Saturday afternoons during the summer, we will stage the event at 811 W. Garland Ave., employing a different artist mentor each week. Giant 8′ easels will be set up and covered with paper. The passing public will be encouraged to draw or paint on the blank paper.

Week 7 – Karen Mobley

Saturday, August 24, 2019

11 A.M. – 2:30 P.M.

Karen Mobley will be at Art on the Street to help kids and adults make “cloud” and “water” puppets.  Stop by to make a hand puppet which represents a force of nature from easy to manage materials.

This is a takeaway project.

Nature is my inspiration, the source of almost all of my works.  The root of my curiosity with nature comes from a childhood growing up on an elk refuge in Wyoming and many years of hiking, walking the ditch, reflecting on the birds, animals, plants, sky, and streams.  I work as visual artist, poet and arts consultant to community organizations. I am active in Rotary 21 and serve as the co-chair of the International Service Committee and work to raise money to provide grants for potable water in rural areas of Africa and South America.  I was named one of the Spokesman-Review’s Difference Makers in Spokane for 2018 and was honored as a Spokane Citizen Hall of Fame inductee for Arts and Letters in May. I am working to create new works for shows at the Terrain Gallery (2019), City of Spokane Downtown Library (2019) and the Moses Lake Museum and Art Center (2020).

Art on the Street is made possible by a grant from the Spokane Arts Grant Awards (SAGA).
