The Art of Us: The Ultimate Date Night Couples Painting Experience with Lisa and Sonny Moeckel

Saturday, October 25, 6-9 p.m.

$75 per couple. Light snacks and beverages provided.

How do two artists create one painting together? Join Spokane’s married artist duo, Sonny and Lisa Moeckel, for a hands-on art experience exploring the balance between individuality and collaboration. In this painting workshop, participants will work in pairs to develop a shared artwork, guided through layering, mark-making, and painting techniques that combine each person’s unique styles. No experience necessary. This class will encourage communication, collaboration, and creative compromise. It’s less about following a formula and more about enjoying the ultimate date night experience and discovering how two perspectives can meet in the middle. You’ll create a take home piece together that is equal parts you and your partner. Celebrate connection through creativity and enjoy the fun of painting in pairs.

Make it a date night with your significant other, best pal, sibling or adult child.

This class made possible by a Spokane Arts Grant Award.

Sonny and Lisa Moeckel are a married artist duo who collaborate simultaneously on the same canvas using oil and acrylic paint by combining their abstract and realistic styles to create expressionist paintings. Their unique collaborations evoke human emotions and vulnerability through painterly lines and vivid colors. Each layer takes weeks, and often months to dry. It can take years for one painting to reach completion.
Spokane, Washington has been home for Lisa her whole life. On her own, Lisa has mainly focused on realism drawings, specifically portraiture. She has only expanded into painting in collaborations with Sonny.
Born and raised on the Navajo reservation, Sonny (Jicarilla Apache and Navajo), had his first painting featured in The Heard Art Museum in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 13. Their two different styles combine to create abstract expressionist paintings.
